Barthes 5 code 

Barthes believes that there are 5 codes that are signifiers that together makes up the story. 

Signifiers: is a symbols, images, sounds that are used to represent the meaning in movies.

This Codes are: 

Hermeneutic Code 'HER':  this is an enigma code that leaves the viewer to ask questions'

Proairetic Code 'ACT': Acting code, the actions that will lead to the next actions that advances the plot forwards

Semantic Code 'SEM':  is a code that can provide us with a deeper understanding of the environment, characters, and plot.

Symbolic Code 'SYM': Symbolic codes are two conflicting symbols that highlight the tension in the movie.

Cultural Code 'REF':  Reference Code,  A body of information that the audience can use as a guide to interpret the signifiers is typically a fact that is well-known across various cultures, genders, groups, and other categories.

ACT:

Maverick is sent back to Top Gun > Maverick is set on a mission by the admirals to train the new generation on bombing the unsanctioned uranium facility > Maverick is teaching the new generations on how to fly the F-18 fighter jets > Maverick shows that the mission is achievable to the new generation > Maverick and the new generation go and bombs the Uranium enrichment site > The bombing succeeded but Maverick crashed the jet > Rooster goes and rescue Maverick > Rooster saves Maverick and they both went back to the carrier 

SEM

Military Uniforms- Since its an action military film, the least what the audience expect is military uniform. Although this film focuses more on the pilot uniform, which reminds us the main focus of this film would be on the air.

The dessert and the mountains- This film focuses on this places because it is trying to show where the Top Gun school is set on the location where the fighter jets can flew freely, as if it were in a crowded place it can disturb people. Also For the mountain place, it would be a good set for the enemy to put the top secret uranium enrichment project in places that are secretive that people can't see like the mountain

Sounds of jet engine- since this is a film about jets and pilot, it is needed that there are sounds of jet engine to make the movie sound real.

SYM

Maverick and the new generation are portrayed as normal day to day people who enjoys partying at a bar and enjoys having fun on the beach. They are also portrayed as people that struggle and keep trying this is potrayed as Maverick is trying to improve and teach the new generation on how to fly the F-18 whilst the new generation fail on their training drills. This is shown to the viewers so the viewers can sympathies with the characters as us humans aren't perfect.

To Understand the story better, there is actually US Navy Fighter weapons school called the Top Gun course. The movie also reference the time Israel bombed the secret uranium enrichment project in Syria and the operation is called "Outside The Box", even thought it is not American the writers also used this reference in the movie by just changing the Israel to American. This movie also references to the prequal movie called Top Gun 1.
