My advertisement features a samurai and Ryusei Onishi (a Japanese actor) advertising noodles made for Japanese men, This advert was made for Japanese university students between the age of 16- 25 years of age, in this advertisement, Ryusei Onishi struggles to figure out what he wants to eat but then a samurai appeared and give the ramen to him and afterward he eats it and enjoy the ramen.
1) My advertisement has followed the typical convention associated with existing ramen ads such as Samurai in Brazil made by Nissin Cup Noodle CM and Nissin cup noodles Samurai 120sec. The similarity of my advertisement to them is that it features a samurai doing extraordinary things such as surfing, dancing, and skiing. But the difference between their advert from my advert is that it's going to feature a famous Japanese actor and the actor and the samurai talk to each other and for the samurai would do a little bit of doing something extraordinary whilst unlike in their advert which has the samurai not talking, so my advert does follow the typical convention but challenges it a little bit. Also in the advert, my Decision to add Ryusei Onishi to the cast is that he is popular to the teenage population in Japan as he was cast in the live-action Seiho Boys' High School! and live-action Rent a Girl Friend, and these movies target audience is between the age of 17 - 25 years of age.
The choice to reference the anime JoJo Bizarre Adventure was also considered an unusual choice as it was placed in the advert as a joke so the Japanese teenagers would know as the anime JoJo Bizarre Adventure is popular with the 17- 25-year-old teenagers in Japan.
Throughout the advertisement, I have reinforced this stereotype of university students, as they would usually pick an easy way to cook food and live in a dorm. through showing that the main character lives in a messy dorm where there were plates everywhere, food stains on the wall, and cobwebs in the ceiling. But not only that there is also a lewd poster in the apartment as it tries to show relatability, as most college students would like to look up lewd posters on their apartments.
2) Since my targeted audiences are teenagers/ university students, I put some features on my ad that would attract them such as samurai, JoJo references, and a popular actor like Ryusei Onishi in the advert. A lot of teenagers in Japan frequently use websites, social media, public places, etc. It will be beneficial if the adverts will going to be shown on social media like YouTube, Bili Bili, Spotify, and Instagram. Whilst in public places such as the subway, bus stop, mall, karaoke, bowling, and campus.
Throughout the advert, there is a binary opposite in the advertisement. The binary opposite I have put in my advert is traditional vs modernity, this is because in the advert the university student lives in modern life as he lives in modern-day Japan but then a samurai came in which is a tradition as samurai are the old traditional warriors of japan. But not only that but there is also a binary opposite of hunger vs satisfaction in the advert the main character is hungry but then the samurai gives him ramen and he becomes satisfied afterward.
3) Based on my experience at the beginning of my project I have some doubts about the ad but then when I start it, I really enjoy it. I learn how to draw a good ad, the technique of how to advertise it right to my audience, how to analyze the audience, and know what theory I can use in my advertisement. The first time I did my advertisement I changed the target audience from a general targeted audience to a niche audience. I changed this Idea because I believe that only a specific amount of people understood my ad than the general audience as they need to be familiar with it. Last week, when I started the advert it was supposed to be the chef that get confused about what to eat but then later I changed it to a university student as I try to make the advert much more specific to a teenage/ student audience.
4) So in my adverts I used websites like YouTube and google which provided me with the information I needed for my project. My project used a blogger, and this is where I put most of my plans and my work for my storyboard. Youtube, is the website where I find research and another advertisement that I can use as references for my advertisement. Google is used as a part of my research because I need to find pictures and references for the advertisement.
